Colonial Math Challenge
The Colonial Math Challenge is an annual mathematical competition for High School students in the Philadelphia region, under the auspices of the Department of Mathematics of Community College of Philadelphia. It consists of two parts: an individual contest where students solve about 20 problems in areas of elementary algebra, elementary Euclidean geometry, combinatorics, etc. The second part is a team competition, where teams consisting of four to five students successively solve problems posed, and where each problem has a time limit from three to seven minutes, depending on difficulty.
The Colonial Math Challenge took place May 12 2011. The individual competition was won by Yun Teng Zheng from Masterman School, with 15 problems out of 20 correct. In a tie for second place, with 14 out of 20 correct were Lily Zhao and Chase Middleman, also from Masterman School.
