The Colonial Math Challenge is an annual mathematical competition for High School students in the Philadelphia region, under the auspices of the Department of Mathematics of Community College of Philadelphia. It consists of two parts: an individual contest where students solve about 20 problems in areas of elementary algebra, elementary Euclidean geometry, combinatorics, etc. The second part is a team competition, where teams consisting of four to five students successively solve problems posed, and where each problem has a time limit from three to seven minutes, depending on difficulty.
The 9th Colonial Math Challenge took place Thursday, April 29, 2009. The winners of the individual competion were Ellen Kim (scored 13), Robert Johnson (scored 12), and Andrey Popov (scored 12). All three were from Masterman School. The winning team was also from Masterman.
