Bacon left a bequest of $10,000 to the Community College of Philadelphia Foundation, to be added to the Ruth Holmes Bacon Award of Excellence, an endowed scholarship fund established in 1989 in memory of his wife. Ruth Bacon was an instructor in the College's Early Childhood Education (ECE) program. The endowment provides two $1,500 scholarships for students enrolled in the College's ECE curriculum. Edmund Bacon died in October 2005 at age 95. He retired as Philadelphia's city planner in 1970 and is credited as a major influence in shaping the city's development.
