(updated 4/14/09)

1)  Identify Hypotheses:

      Ho:  Fits claimed distribution

H1:  Does NOT fit claimed distribution

2)  Write given (alpha, contigency table, n)

3)  find critical value (cv) from Table A-4

4)  calculate test statistic (ts)

5)  Draw chi-square curve, shade critical region, & label cv, ts.

6)  Traditional Method Decision Rule (DR)

if ts outside critical region, fail to reject null.

if ts inside critical region, reject null.

7)  find P-value

8)  P-Value Method DR

if p-val > alpha, fail to reject null.

if p-val <= alpha, reject null.

9)  State conclusion in English words relative to original claim.
