Course
Description
Development of awareness of the systems that society utilizes to care for those in need. Various types of health care institutions, organizations, agencies and practitioners will be discussed. A total concept of health care and the socio-economic and environmental aspects will be explored.
Purpose
The purpose of the course is to provide the
student with an understanding of the rapidly changing health care
industry. The course will provide
information on the changes in the
Objectives
1.
Define terms related to the health care delivery system and decode acronyms.
2. Explain the concept of
Public Health as it is related to geographic areas (county, state, national and
international) and name the chief organization at each level.
3. Trace the historical development of heath
care.
4. Identify major factors in health care
legislation at the federal, state, and local levels of government, and how they
impact on consumers and providers of health care.
5. Identify the various health care reimbursement
methods.
6. Identify the settings of health care, and the
various health professionals.
Grading
Forums (one point for each completed forum) 10%
Assignments
( two points for each completed assignment) 15%
Exams 75%
Class participation is
based on student’s participation in classroom discussion and sharing articles
pertaining to classroom topics found in newspapers and magazines. In order to achieve satisfactory attendance,
the student will miss no more than 2 classes.
A total of 3 exams and 1 final will be given.
