CIS 103 Syllabus

The first exam will be due during the 6th week and the last exam during Finals Week.   Assignments and Exams will be graded on professionalism, accuracy, neatness, style, and completeness.  Participation with the Forum is required.

Course grades will be assigned according to the following scale:

90 - 100%               =               A

80 - 89%                 =               B

70 - 79%                   =               C

60 - 69%                 =               D

  0 - 59%                   =               F

 

 

 

 

 

 

Operating System:                Windows XP or higher

Software:                Microsoft® Word 2007 and Excel 2007

All assignments are to be turned in on time.  There will be no exceptions to this policy.  All work must be submitted through WebStudy, except where noted otherwise.

It is your responsibility to READ, REVIEW, and WORK through all materials and assignments as scheduled.  Your textbook is a huge resource as well as using SNAP. Assignments will be scheduled weekly and expected to be completed on time.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is for students who wish to become proficient in the applications of personal computers.  The following operating and applications software will be covered:

Operating System – Microsoft® Windows XP

Microsoft®  Office 2007 Applications:

Spreadsheets – Excel

Word Processing – Word

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

At the completion of this course, you will be proficient in:

· a broad range of computer skills and the ability to apply them within the functional areas of an organization

· understanding and operating a PC in the Microsoft® Windows environment

· exhibiting a thorough understanding of the application of personal computers in the workplace, college and at home

· understanding the concepts of Windows and its application with the software programs that they support

· working as a problem solver through the use of technology

COURSE EVALUATION

This course is an internet based course, you must focus on the weekly assignments and turn in the required work when it is due.  You will be directed in your readings, exercises and evaluations through WebStudy.

All work for the week must be completed by the established deadline time/date.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Failure to turn work in on time will count as an absence, two (2) absences and you may be dropped from the course.  Refer to the College Catalog for specifics on Withdrawals from Courses under the section entitled Policy on Academic Standards and Progress.

ASSIGNMENTS

GRADING POLICIES

Weekly Assignments, the Forum, Mid-term Exam and Final Exam will all count toward the final grade.  The final grade for this course will be determined by the following percentages.
