Course Objectives:

The objectives of this course include:

  • mastery of basic mathematics as used in introductory chemistry
  • a general understanding of the metric system
  • an understanding of key events in the history of chemistry
  • a competency in chemical nomenclature, formula writing, and chemical equations
  • a general understanding of stoichiometry, chemical reactions, and gas laws

The Chem 101/102/103/104 course uses the same text as the classroom course. There is no lab book required for the internet course. Contact the CCP Bookstore or Michael Gregor (mgregor@ccp.edu) for the current text assigned to the course. Note that used copies of the text may be available through the Bookstore.

All labs are posted in Webstudy.

Safety Glasses: A requirement for lab. Get comfortable ones because you will not be permitted to work in the laboratory without them. You may not wear sunglasses, tinted lenses or contact lenses as an alternative.

Tutoring:

All students are eligible to request peer tutoring. Tutors are available by appointment and without charge through the (West) Learning Laboratory, W3-26, 215-751-8482. Additional tutoring is available through the Main Learning Lab. You may also schedule an appointment to meet with me on campus at a mutually convenient time.

Withdrawal Date: Please check the College's calendar or contact the Distance Education department for specific information and dates. Note: It is the student's responsibility to withdraw from this class if he/she so desires. If a student ceases to attend but does not withdraw before the College's withdrawal deadline, the student will receive an F for the course.

STUDENTS RECEIVING TITLE IV FINANCIAL AID FUNDS

Effective Fall 2000, students who receive Title IV financial aid funds and who withdraw from ALL their classes before completion of 60% of the term, i.e., the 10th week (or its equivalent for summer terms) may be required to return all or a portion of their financial aid award. If it is determined that funds must be returned to the financial aid programs, students must make satisfactory payment arrangements within 45 days of notification or they become ineligible for further financial aid funding
