Course Description: Planning, organizing and controlling the
operative functions of procuring, developing, maintaining and utilizing a labor
force. Criteria for wages, grievance machinery, communications, morale and
attitudes, transfers and promotions, testing and participation programs will be
examined.

of human resource management in today's modern organization.

Describe the major personnel functions.

Identify and explain the provisions of
the major laws and regulations that influence human resource management.

Explain Equal Employment Opportunity and
Affirmative Action programs.

Describe the interaction between business
planning and human resource planning.

Define corporate culture and describe the
factors that interact to affect corporate culture.

Explain the various types of corporate
culture.

Explain the collective bargaining process
and describe a sound union-management relations program.

Describe an effective performance
evaluation system and identify the important dimensions of performance that
should be evaluated.

List the major theories of motivation and
explain the central components of each theory.

Explain the importance of training and
development in maintaining and developing an effective work force.

Define the three types of compensation
and explain how they tie to the organizational strategy.

Define a benefit and explain why benefits
are important to both employees and employers.

Use a Human Resource Information System
(HRIS) to perform selected human resource activities.

Grading: Grading in this course will be based on the
following:
There will be 14 textbook assignments.
Each assignment has a value of 10 points for the course. There are four
required forums which have a value of 10 points each. In addition, there will
be a midterm and final exam each worth 60 points.

Late assignments will not be
accepted. Assignments are due on the
date stated by the instructor. There will be no make-up tests, assignments, or
forums. Two or more missed textbook assignments can result in withdrawal from
this course. Textbook assignments are due every week. It is your responsibility
to be aware when assignments are due – I will not be sending emails reminding
you when assignments are due!
Tests may be multiple choice, essay, or a
combination of both. Assignments consist of answering the questions at the end
of each chapter. Forums require you to respond to questions posted by the
professor, as well as interacting with other students.
