Geospatial Specialists performs a variety of complex and advanced activities for developing GIS computer systems, applications and procedures, such as:

  • Develop, customize, and maintain GIS related software applications, interfaces, databases, and systems
  • Collect, manage and analyze data to determine locations, conditions, trends and patterns
  • Prepare maps, graphics and reports utilizing GIS findings and output
  • Manage projects and advise decision-making based on GIS analysis
  • Train staff on GIS software applications and procedures

    Environmental Specialists protect the environment through tasks such as:

  • Monitor air and water quality,
  • Model pollutant movement
  • Assure compliance with state and federal environmental regulations
  • Protect natural resources and biodiversity
  • Manage solid and hazardous wastes

    Geospatial and Environmental Specialists work for private companies (such as businesses or computer/engineering consulting firms), nonprofit organizations (such as environmental, community or faith-based groups), and government agencies (such as municipality water departments or land use planning).
