South Africa Seminar

From 10 to 20 June, I, along with 14 other college faculty from across the United States,  participated in a faculty seminar in South Africa sponsored by the Council on International Educational Exchange, a non-profit organization which conducts programs in 30 countries for students and teachers at secondary and university levels.  The topic of the seminar was "Nation Building," and this is certainly pertinent in South Africa in 2001 as the nation has come down from the heights of optimism and hope which characterized the national spirit as the country shifted underwent the transformation from apartheid to a democratic society.
The experience was extremely rewarding since the lectures were informative and thought-provoking, and the related tours gave us the opportunities to see some beautiful and memorable sites and to meet some warm and generous people.  I have sifted through my memories and experiences and have put together two web sites, one on some of  the lectures topics which I found most thought-provoking, Constitution, Human Rights, "Two Nations" and Ubuntu, and the other, Developmental Education, which examined some issues related to my personal interests.
