Welcome to CIS 130

Thanks for signing up for the online version of CIS 130.  The course is Web Page Design and as a result, I am attempting to give you an overview of the Web, along with learning the tools of good webpage design.  The first reading assignments in WebStudy will take you on a journey of the history of the Internet.

You might be surprised at some of the historical facts you’ll find.

Start reading your book as soon as you can get it.  In the first few weeks, we cover the material tutorials 1-2-and 3.  This is the first three chapters of the book.  One of the assignments is to do Mr. Dube’s Chemistry Page. Tutorial 2 of the text.  If you have a old version of the book, you can do Mary Taylors Resume as your first assignment page.  The material covered is the same in both versions of the text.  I will link you to the resume done in the last version of the text.  You can use this as an example.

I also send you to many online tutorial sites, which may help you fine code examples you can use.  I also have links to my website which has all the code examples you need for the course.

You will be building a web site that will be put on an off campus web server.  I use Tripod.com.  All assignments after week 3 will be posted to your website. They are all pretty good for our purpose.  We are no longer using any authoring tools. All web pages will be done using Notepad only.  If you use authoring tools, your pages will be marked as incorrect.

Once you start building your web site, this is where you will put all of your completed web page assignments.  The exception is your test.  All test will be emailed to me as an attachment. I will be checking in on your web sites to make sure you are completing all the work.  For example, the resume that you create is not mailed to me, it is placed on your web site by a specific date and I will just check in on your site to see your finished work.

We have a lot of work to do.

The following rules must be followed:

  • Each week there is an assignment.  All assignments are due Saturday 12:00pm. In the week it is assigned. If you miss an assignment, it’s the same as missing a week of class.
  • WebStudy is your course syllabus.  Everything you need is in the Timeline.
  • College Policy states if you miss two weeks of class, you may be dropped from the course for lack of attendance.
  • Communication is essential.
  • All test and exams will have a due date. If you miss the deadline, there are no makeup test.
  • It is your responsibility to keep me informed as to what you are doing.  If you are having any problems, send me an email.

Any problems send me an email.

Thanks,

Don
