Women’s
Studies / Gender
Studies
What is Women’s Studies/Gender Studies?
The interdisciplinary field of Women’s Studies/Gender
Studies examines the
historical, social and cultural roots of gender identity
and gender inequality. This field
examines the ways in which gender roles have changed over
time and across cultures
and promotes an understanding of differences created by
gender, race, ethnicity,
class, global location and sexual orientation.
Women’s Studies/Gender Studies
Associate’s Degree Program
The Women’s Studies/Gender Studies curriculum is one of
the concentration
options available in the Liberal Arts (A.A) degree
program. This option is appropriate
for students who wish to transfer to a four-year college
or university to earn a
Bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies/ Gender Studies. This
program is also
appropriate for those who wish to earn a bachelor’s degree
in a wide range of majors
in the humanities and social sciences, such as history,
literature, sociology, political science, psychology, communications,
education and human services.
What Can You Do with a Women’s Studies
Degree?
The interdisciplinary nature of Women’s Studies/Gender
Studies produces innovative
and flexible thinkers who understand and respect the
increasingly diverse and
multicultural world in which they live. As a Women’s Studies/Gender
Studies student,
you will develop important skills of analysis and
research, writing and communication,
and leadership and organization that can be applied in a

Why Community College of Philadelphia?
• The College is easily accessible by public
transportation.
• Tuition is the lowest of any local college or
university.
• The College offers day, evening and weekend classes.
• To make its programs accessible to residents throughout the
city, the College
has three regional centers and more than 30 neighborhood
sites, in addition to its
Main Campus near Center City.
Because we recognize that some students may find it
difficult to attend classes for
several hours each day or evening, the College offers a
variety of courses through
distance education and in an accelerated format. Many of
the general education
requirements and several of the core courses in the
Women’s Studies/Gender Studies
Curriculum are offered online.
Articulation Agreements
Articulation agreements with four-year area colleges and
universities facilitate seamless
transfer for graduates of the College. Most of our
students are able to transfer all of
their
credits and enter into a four-year institution with junior
status. Some agreements also include
scholarship opportunities. Agreements for Women’s
Studies/Gender Studies are in place with
Rosemont
College and Temple University.
