Works of Clay By Karen Aumann |
|
Karen Aumann teaches ceramics and design classes in the Art Department at Community College of Philadelphia. She has this to say about her work,” Nature has always influenced my work. As a potter that seems inevitable - the earth, the fire, the quartz and feldspathic rocks that make up glazes. The hollowness of forms thrown on the wheel, with the promise of containing, appeals to me as well, even though I know that many of my pots would remain forever empty. My newest works are constructed in a shallow relief format with various organic elements, such as sticks and stones, sculpted in terra cotta clay. The final arrangements are pre-planned only in the most general way. Through selection and editing the parts come together in a fluid fashion, unexpected even to me." Three of her new works can be seen in the Teaching Center from October 1 to 10. More of her work, including pots, will be on exhibit in the Rotunda Gallery during the month of October in the Photography/Art Faculty Exhibition. |
