Welcome to the Mathematics Department Site!

Mathematics forms the pillar of our modern scientific and technological society, being an integral part of both a liberal and a scientific education.

Knowledge of mathematics has been recognized throughout history as the hallmark of a good education. Indeed, most of the trivium (grammar, rhetoric, logic) and the quadrivium (arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, music) were mathematical disciplines.

But mathematics is much more than numbers, patterns, and geometric shapes. Mathematical methods have wide applicability to other sciences and other disciplines. Mathematical models allow us to concentrate on the specifics of a problem and form theories which can then be used to predict outcomes. Mathematics thus combines applicability, with intellectual challenge and rigor, and aesthetic elegance.

The mission of the Community College Department of Mathematics is to disseminate its appreciation for the subject to all who may benefit, by creating courses of relevance towards this dissemination.

Through its programs and courses the Department aspires to promote analysis, curiosity, and the capacity for conjecture. Through a solid mathematical education our aims are
