A MESSAGE FROM THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR:

HELLO AND WELCOME!

Thank you for your interest in the Diagnostic Medical Imaging Program (DMIP).  This Program is fully accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and graduates are eligible to take the national certifying examination administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).  For a detailed description of the DMIP, please consult the College catalog.

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions:

When does the Program begin?

Classes begin each July with Summer Session II.  An orientation for newly accepted DMIP students usually occurs in June.  This orientation is by invitation only and is required.

How long is this Program?

Once accepted into the DMIP, it takes at least 24 months (2 years) to learn everything necessary to safely use radiation in a medical setting.  All General Education courses must be completed before entering DMIP or along with DMIP courses.  Most students choose to complete some of the General Education courses before entering DMIP to make their schedule manageable.

Is the program offered at night?

The DMIP is a full-time, day program.  No evening classes in DMIP are offered.  However, students can elect to complete the General Education courses at night before committing to the DMIP courses.

Who can apply?

It is strongly suggested that students interested in DMIP work closely with one of the Allied Health Counselors at Community College of Philadelphia to plan their courses and meet entrance requirements.  Appointments can be scheduled by calling 215-751-8169.  Admission into DMIP is limited and competitive due to the fact that the DMIP is called a “select” Program. Select programs require that certain criteria must be met before a student can be accepted into the Program.  The basic criteria are that a student must demonstrate college level proficiency in Math, English and Biology.  This can be accomplished by taking appropriate courses at the College or elsewhere.  Specifically, applicants must show readiness for Community College of Philadelphia’s Math 118 course or higher and English 101.  Applicants should also have completed a general or introductory Biology course with a grade of “C” or better in the last 10 years.  College-level Biology is preferred.

I am already a student at Community College of Philadelphia.  How do I apply to the DMIP?

Each Fall, counselors hold information sessions for new and continuing students on the main campus for students who would like to apply to DMIP.  Vital information regarding further testing and DMIP requirements is provided at these sessions. The schedule is available by calling 215-751-8169 or 215-751-8430.  These group information sessions are held from early October until late December.  After December, students meet individually with counselors to apply. Priority for testing and consideration for admission into DMIP is given to those students who apply between October 1 and February 1 each year.

I am new to the College.  How do I apply to the DMIP?

You should apply to the College and fulfill the College admission requirements.  If you have never attended college, you will be required to take the Placement Test or submit acceptable SAT or ACT scores.  If you have attended another college, you must submit an official copy of your transcript(s) for evaluation of transfer credit.  From this point you should follow the steps listed above (attend a group information session, meet with an Allied Health counselor, etc.).
