Advising Tips for CST Students
Compiled by Judy Davidson, Health Careers Counselor

See an advisor
for help in planning your schedule. To schedule an appointment with an advisor,
visit W1-1, e-mail advising@ccp.edu or phone 215-751-877 or
215-751-8778.
Plan to reach
your goal. What courses do you need for your intended major? What courses do
you need to graduate from CCP? What courses do you need to transfer?
Be informed-Read
the catalog and your announcements on MyCCP. Know
when to register and when to apply for select curricula. Be aware of payment
deadlines and withdrawal deadlines.
Choose summer
session courses carefully. Seven weeks go by fast.
Don’t rush-Take
only as many courses as you can comfortably handle. Learn time management
skills. Withdrawals may count against you when applying for select programs and
may affect your financial aid eligibility and academic status in the long run.
Build your
skills. For example, you may need Biology 106 before attempting Biology 109.
HIT 105 may be helpful even if not required.
When combining courses,
consider the level of difficulty of the courses. What is an “easy” course for
you? Does it include math, reading assignments, term papers, computer skills?
Register early to
get the schedule you want. Registration dates are available in the course
listing brochure and on the CCP home page.
Make payments on
time to keep the schedule you choose. By not paying on time, you can be dropped
from courses and could lose your seat in the class.
Utilize Learning
Lab resources to help you succeed in your courses. Take advantage of free
tutors, workshops, etc.
Remember: You are in charge of…
…your grades. You earn them. They are not given to
you.
…your schedule. You plan it. It’s not handed to you.
…your curriculum. Know where
you want to go.
…your plans. Explore your
options. Changing plans is not failure.
