Biomedical Technician Training Program

 

The Classroom Component

Students take a cluster of courses within the Culture, Science, and Technology (CST) curriculum as a part of the Biomedical Technician Training Program. The CST curriculum is an associate degree curriculum with a solid foundation in math, sciences, and the humanities.

 

The Laboratory Component

The laboratory skills training component takes place in the summer immediately following successful completion of the first year of course work at the College. At the Wistar Institute or another affiliated training site, students participate in the following sessions:

After successful completion of the second year of course work at the College, the students return to The Wistar Institute or another affiliated training site for a 12-week internship. Students are paid hourly for summer training sessions.

 

Culture, Science and Technology Curriculum Entry Requirements

Students are required to take the College’s placement tests. Students must successfully complete college-level English and mathematics courses before applying to the Biomedical Technician Training Program.

 

Biomedical Technician Training Program Entry Requirements

Students interested in the Biomedical Technician Training Program should contact Dr. D. Michael Byler, Academic Coordinator of BTTP and Assistant Professor of Chemistry (Room W4-39) at dbyler@ccp.edu or the Division of Mathematics, Science, and Health Careers (Room W2-7) at 215-751-8430. Information sessions will be held at the College during the fall and spring semesters. After attending an information session, students will have the opportunity to apply to the program. Admission to the program is based on academic record, interview, and faculty recommendation. Students begin the program in the spring semester.

 

Affiliated Training Sites

The Wistar Institute and the Fels Institute serve as the principal academic training sites for students in the Biomedical Technician Training Program. Several regional biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies located in the greater Philadelphia area also provide internships.

 

Associate Degree and Certificate of Completion

In addition to an Associate Degree, students who successfully meet the requirements of the Biomedical Technician Training Program receive a Certificate of Completion from The Wistar Institute.
