Computer Information Systems Department

The ability to use modern computer technology, including personal computers computer networks and Internet applications in one's academic life and personal life are now common through society. As the level of computer skills among the general public has increased over the last twenty-five years, so has the demand for qualified computer personnel in business, government, education and science. Following is a description of the three computer curriculum offered in the Computer Information Systems Department.

MCIT

The Management of Computer information Technology curriculum leads to an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree. The primary goal of the program is to prepare students for transfer to a baccalaureate program in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field. The curricular focus is a set of courses that develop business managers who understand and implement information management methods that are joined with automation to support business decision making. The curriculum emphasizes the use of technology to manage information and business processes. Upon receiving the Associate’s degree, students are prepared to obtain employment as Computer Support Specialists at an entry- or mid-level position. Further education is recommended for students who wish to advance to higher level positions.

Computer Science

Do you dream of creating the next hand-held personal computer or developing a new video game? Would you like to learn how computers work? The Computer Science program gives you a good foundation to transfer and pursue a bachelor’s degree for a career in a rapidly growing field.

Our Computer Science curriculum follows the first two years of the four-year computer science degree guidelines issued by the Association for Computing Machinery and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.  Graduate from CCP transfer to a four-year college or university where, after an additional two years, they will earn a bachelor’s degree in  Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering.

Regional colleges and universities, including Drexel and Temple, readily accept Computer Science program courses. Many Computer Science program graduates who transfer to pursue a bachelor’s degree have praised praise the level of preparation they received here at CCP.

Are you the person your friends and colleagues ask questions about using computers? Do you enjoy sharing with your peers the latest new computer features or software? Computer Information Systems – Information Technology Option prepares you for a career in a fast-growing field built upon the activities you enjoy.

In the Information Technology program you can learn about:

  • computer program development
  • database design and administration
  • Web-page design
  • foundations for computer technology and data communication
  • implementation and maintenance of a server environment

The A.A.S. program in Information Technology prepares graduates for jobs as computer support specialists in computer companies or in a wide variety of industries.
