The ability to use modern computer technology, including personal computers computer networks and Internet applications in one's academic life and personal life are now common through society. As the level of computer skills among the general public has increased over the last twenty-five years, so has the demand for qualified computer personnel in business, government, education and science. Following is a description of the three computer curriculum offered in the Computer Information Systems Department.

Degrees Offered

Management Computer Information Technology -- MCIT

The Management of Computer information Technology curriculum leads to an Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree. The primary goal of the program is to prepare students for transfer to a baccalaureate program in Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field. The curricular focus is a set of courses that develop business managers who understand and implement information management methods that are joined with automation to support business decision making. The curriculum emphasizes the use of technology to manage information and business processes. Upon receiving the Associate’s degree, students are prepared to obtain employment as Computer Support Specialists at an entry- or mid-level position. Further education is recommended for students who wish to advance to higher level positions.

Computer Science -- CSCI

Our Computer Science curriculum follows the first two years of the four-year computer science degree guidelines issued by the Association for Computing Machinery and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers'. Graduates from CCP transfer to a four-year college or university where, after an additional two years, they will earn a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering. Regional colleges and universities, including Drexel and Temple, readily accept Computer Science program courses. Many Computer Science program graduates who transfer to pursue a bachelor's degree have praised praise the level of preparation they received here at CCP. This curriculum leads to an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree in Computer Science.

Computer Information Systems

Information Technology is designed for those people who wish to earn a degree in the foundations of modern information technology. This program provides students with a core of general education and computer information systems courses coupled with a flexible set of elective requirements. Students who complete the program will enter the job market as computer specialists who have a solid foundation in the areas of computing most important in today's workplace - including PC operating systems, common applications software, data communications and networking, database management systems, computer programming, and systems analysis and design. Elective courses beyond the core may be chosen to develop specialization in a selected area or to obtain a broader understanding of certain computer technologies and how they fit together. Students in this curriculum earn an Associate in Applied (A.A.S) degree.
