“I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the teachers and their helpfulness and individual attention towards students.

I used to be intimidated by art, even though I had always loved to draw, paint, etc. I would always have to force myself to take time out to draw in my sketchbook.

Many people think that doing or making art is something that comes easily, and it's a non-thought process. I found that after taking studio classes (at the Community College of Philadelphia), my drawing, sense of design, even the way I look at forms and colors in everyday life has become more sensitive, fine-tuned, and overall a lot better. I no longer force myself to draw in my sketchbook; now I look around and I see hundreds of things to draw. I have become more confident about my ability to create art. The Art Department courses have helped me develop many skills to do this.

I definitely recommend the Art Department to others, because of the quality of the teachers and the seriousness of the Art program.”—Joanne Sherrow

“I chose the Community College of Philadelphia because I needed to start over with fundamentals I felt I lost since high school.

Being out of school for 20 years, I needed a fresh start, and after speaking to those who were attending the Community College of Philadelphia, I was told that the amount of education one can receive here goes beyond what one pays for tuition. Now as a student, I have gained far more than what I paid for. It took a lot of hard work, and there were sacrifices to be made, but I have been rewarded greatly!

I uncovered a new sense of confidence and determination while attending the Community College of Philadelphia. The faculty has supported me through these changes and continue to encourage me to follow through with my goals.

My career plans are to one day work in the film industry. The curriculum and foundation I have followed have been beneficial to my creative way of thinking. Whether one produces a picture with a brush, pencil, or camera, it all begins with the process of creative thinking, the essence of what is being taught in the Community College of Philadelphia Art Department.

I will take this experience with me while I further my education elsewhere, as well as through my life. I came to the Community College of Philadelphia with a talent, but I am leaving with the tools, and a better and more creative sense of expressing that talent.”—Linda Adams

“Since I've been at the Community College of Philadelphia, I have learned a number of drawing techniques. I am proud of my new-found ability to do analytical drawings. More importantly, I have learned to be more honest with my opinion about the work of others. I have begun to prioritize and manage my time better as well. The faculty is here to help you succeed; they take the time to make sure you understand the assignments.

The Community College of Philadelphia is a good place to start; there is a comfortable atmosphere, the school doesn't feel cluttered, it's inexpensive, and the classes are transferable.”—Jason Thompson

“I graduated from high school in Jamaica, and going to the Community College of Philadelphia was a convenient transition into the American School System. My drawing skills really took off here. I had some excellent teachers who were excited about their students. It was really inspiring to be amongst people who took their work seriously, and were figuring out how to pursue it.

I am an intern architect now, and drawing has been an integral part of my conceptualizing and communicating my design work.”—Rachel Goffe
