Department of Allied Health Welcome! Choosing a career in an
allied health profession is making a right choice for your future. The Community
College of Philadelphia offers six programs of study in allied health, with
each curriculum designed to prepare its students with the skills and
knowledge needs for today and tomorrow’s employment demands. The health care industry is one
of rapid growth and change. New legislation; federal, state, and local
regulations; changes in reimbursement methods and technological advances will
continue to impact our health delivery system. Did you know that most health
care providers who are working in hospitals are not physicians and nurses?
They are allied health professionals who are defined by the Health
Professions Network as – health care practitioners with formal education and
clinical training who are credentialed through certification, registration,
and/or licensure. They collaborate with physicians and other members of the
health care team to deliver high quality patient care services for the
identification, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disabilities, and
disorders. When considering an allied health
career, ask yourself these questions to help you choose one of the College’s
Programs: Do you like “hands on”
activities? If you responded, “yes”, consider the Diagnostic Medical Imaging,
Respiratory Care or the Dental Hygiene Programs. Are you more interested in
managing health care facilities? If the answer is “yes” consider the Health
Services Management Program. Does investigative research or
problem solving interest you? The Clinical Laboratory Technician Program
might be your right choice. Does patient interaction and
diversity of skills interest you? Consider the Medical Assisting and Office
Management Program. For additional information contact: Deborah D. Rossi, MA, CMA (AAMA) Department Head Email: drossi@ccp.edu Phone: (215)
