Department of Academic
Computing
Academic Computing, within the division of Educational
Support Services, provides a variety of facilities and caring support to a
diverse population of faculty and students. Academic Computing encourages
innovation and excellence in the curriculum through the appropriate application
of information technology, fostering personal and professional development
while emphasizing a high level of interdependence and ethical behavior.
Academic Computing advises and assists faculty and students in the use of
information technology for the creation, organization, analysis, and
presentation of scholarly endeavors.
GOALS
1) ensure
that faculty and students have equitable and appropriate access to technology
to meet their teaching and learning needs
a) maintain
a presence on the Technology Coordinating Committee
b) work
with departments and faculty to create and maintain a technology plan for their
respective area
c) the coordinator will serve as an advocate for faculty and
keep in regular contact with Information Technology Services staff so that
issues of concern may be dealt with effectively and efficiently
d) evaluate technical issues and initiate appropriate
corrective procedures on computer and peripheral equipment and interface
between students/faculty and Information Technology Services
2) encourage the appropriate and effective use of educational
technology by faculty and students in the pursuit of excellence in education
a) supervise and staff Student Academic Computer
Centers (SACC) on all campuses
b)
provide one-on-one training and consultation for
commonly used desktop applications and specialized academic software for students in SACC
c)
facilitate faculty
members and academic departments in locating, evaluating, and implementing
educational technology
d)
interact with faculty
to be informed of any new software/technology or their upgrades being
implemented on campus and acquire appropriate support materials
e)
conduct or arrange for
workshops on how to use the appropriate technologies available on campus
f)
provide assistance and
support for academic departments and individual faculty in the authoring and
maintenance of departmental and course-specific web pages.
3)
promote effective
communication between faculty, students and the Academic Computing department
a)
departmental personnel
will stay knowledgeable about technology and software applications of concern
to the faculty and used by students
b)
publish newsletters
and maintain the Academic Computing web pages as sources of information
addressing educational technology issues on campus
c)
provide development
workshops to enhance interpersonal communication skills between Academic
Computing personnel (including student workers) and faculty and students
